GA4
By now, I’m sure you all have seen or heard of the update to Google Analytics. This guide will talk briefly about what it is and what needs to happen to make sure our customers are taken care of.
Google updated their systems to track more in depth information for website owners across the board, improving the overall data they can track and provide a greater understanding of what site owners can do to increase site traffic.
New Customer
If your customer is new to Google Analytics, they do not need to do anything special to make sure they are utilizing the new GA4 scripts. They do still need to make sure they set up their Google Analytics account, but the guided set up on Google will do all the heavy lifting for them.
Script
If they are using the script to add to the site, they simply need to generate it from their Google dashboard and provide it to us. They can follow this guide to generate the script and under “Set up data collection for websites” be sure they follow the steps under “Add the Google tag directly to your web pages”.
Plugin
If they are using one of our plugins, the setup remains the same for each respective plugin.
Existing Customer
If your customer is an existing customer and wants to ensure their current Google Analytics is migrated to the new GA4, the process is simple.
Script
If they are using the script, they will need to log in to their Google Analytics account and generate a new GA4 script. Follow this guide and proceed with the “Install Manually” steps in order to generate the new script.
Plugin
If the customer is currently using our Site Kit plugin, they should be prompted in the WordPress Dashboard that they need to migrate to GA4.
If they are using the WooCommerce GA Plugin, they will need to walk through the migration steps to move to GA4. The steps can be found here, and are also linked in the plugin documentation.
