Custom Fonts
Published On: May 5, 2021/Last Updated December 29, 2022
Many customers are asking about using a custom font or a font not available on Google fonts. Good news! We have a new process for accepting these fonts for our Premium+ customers.
First and foremost, Let’s get some legal stuff out of the way:
- If a font is provided it to us, the customer is agreeing that they have acquired the rights to the font, are following all license requirements set forth by the font author, and they are assuming all liability.
- Upon acceptance, there is a clear understanding that we (GoDaddy) do not guarantee or troubleshoot any lack of functionality.
- You must send the email below to the customer and obtain a reply to proceed with the custom font:
- You mentioned today that you’d like for us to use the provided custom font. We need your written consent so we can make sure we’re only using content that you own. Please reply to this email stating that you own this content and that you’re giving us permission to use it on your new website.
Whew ok, now that the legal stuff is covered, let’s talk about how to get this ball rolling.
- Your customer must provide the font file. We will not go hunting for the font for them, nor will we make recommendations as to where they can find fonts outside of Google fonts.
- The best files for web will be WOFF and WOFF2, but TTF files are now (as of January 2021) being accepted as well. We still recommend that the customer provide the web kit for fonts as this usually contains all the files needed for every browser, old and new.
- TTF/OTF
- WOFF/WOFF2
- EOT
- SVG
- The customer must complete the plugin worksheet, or you may complete it on their behalf as long as the customer agrees to the Authorization line in the worksheet.
