What is a post type?

A post type is a way to add a large amount of content to a templated theme, making the site load faster and allowing for easy back end management. Default post types in WordPress are blogs and products, but you can also have job postings, real estate listings, locations, team members, events, and more.

What is the difference between a blog and a post?

Nothing! Post is simply the “technical” term for a blog and is what you will see as the menu name in the WordPress Dashboard.

What is the difference between a post and a page?

A Page is meant to be 100% unique, whereas a Post or a blog is meant the have the same layout with different content.

For example; a post will have a title, description, and probably a featured image. Every post has this information and the layout of the post remains the same throughout the site. Most often you will see the Post title and featured image at the top and the description just below. Posts are edited in the backend of the site using block editor.

A page can be adjusted to have a unique layout for every page on the site. GoDaddy builds pages using Beaver Builder and is edited on the front end of the site with a drag and drop interface.

Pages typically take longer to load than posts because of their unique nature, which is why if you have any content that can be put into a template, you should be doing this with posts. For example; If you have a lot of team members and you want to showcase their resumes on the site, these should be made into posts as they will all likely house the same basic information and can be put into a templated layout that applies to all team members.

What are PODs?

PODs are simply a custom post type. PODs allow the builders to either add fields on to the existing posts or create an entirely new post type with custom fields. PODs are very useful when you have a lot of template style information to display on a site, like team members or food recipes. The possibilities with PODs are endless, just check with BOTD if you are unclear if something can be a POD.
